David spent over 35 years’ as a leading plant scientist worked in universities in both the US and UK. He is an elected fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh.

David has now stepped back from being an active full-time university researcher. He is a potter, and produces work at SaltMud Pottery. He is a co-Founder and Chief Scientific Advisor for NuKoKo, and the Chair and a Trustee of the Williamson Trust. He is also a keen runner.

David Salt is currently working on several commissions for cafes and shops, exploring simple glazes, wild clay slips, iron oxides and natural iron pigments, and wood ash.
